Reassuring Raven. Original Silkscreen Print.
*now available on A4 3mm poplar plywood- thin enough to frame, tough enough to leave unframed.*
I was reading a little book of Buddhist scripture called 'The Buddha's Law Amongst The Birds' and was rather taken by what the Raven said. Unlike western birds always threatening us with menacing nevermores, he said 'help will come'. So I made it into a poster.
Inspiration: Did you know that the Raven is the national bird of Bhutan? And that's supposed to be the happiest country. Ravens and crow mythology is widespread but for some reason he appears to have been branded as a trickster or bad omen more often in the west, so I made a print to show that not everyone thinks that. Love corvids? Me too!
Process: I painted the original directly on the screen, using rubbings for textures. The writing is handwritten by me. Then I printed it onto acetate so I could reprint editions using a more hardwearing screen made using diazo.
Know someone who is having a hard time? Having one yourself? Buy this poster as the perfect gift to reassure that everything will work out in the end. Somehow or other it will. Raven said so. Frame it for a wall; post it to a friend; pop it in a scrapbook. Don't forget to see my other matching products, like this moleskine.
Size: Printed by me on acid free, smooth, heavy weight, A4 cartridge paper. A4 is 297x210mm (126.96.36.199 inches) Fits standard sized frames (either for A4 or 8x10) (frames are not provided)
Materials: I use water based (eco friendly) acrylic inks darkest prussian blue reminiscent of ravens amazing plumage to create a direct, striking artprint. All materials are archival to last as an heirloom into the future.
Important stuff: My screenprints are hand printed and hand registered by eye and unlike computer generated images are subject to slight variations that make each a unique piece of art.
