My little son likes cross stitch, but doesn't like to follow a pattern. I made him a selection of patches with pictures on for him to put X’s on, and he likes embellishing these a lot. You could also sew beads and buttons on, and then sew them onto a project or make a pincushion (or soft toy, or lavender pomander) out of them, or display them in a hoop as my son has. They are really just for you to have fun with your stitching. Each patch is printed on piece of linen about 20cm square- the doll is printed to the left so you can fold her over and stuff her, and the cloud is printed at the top of the square so you have room to add rain (strings of beads would look lovely). I use water based inks which are non toxic and washable.
